A 43-year-old man named Hernan was successfully pulled from the rubble of a collapsed shopping center in Venezuela, over a week after a massive earthquake, in what officials describe as a miracle. <\/p>\n
“Hernan is on the surface! After 114 hours of continuous efforts and more than seven days since the earthquakes, Hernan was rescued and is currently in a Venezuelan Red Cross ambulance. We did it!” announced the Costa Rican Red Cross.<\/p>\n
The rescue involved international teams from Portugal, the USA, Chile, El Salvador, Mexico, and Venezuela. The man remained conscious throughout the ordeal, and rescuers provided him with water and nutrients. However, extracting him from beneath tons of debris in a structurally unstable environment proved to be a difficult and time-consuming process.<\/p>\n
Hernan, a night security guard, had taken shelter in his guard hut when the buildings collapsed. While the structure above him fell, the small booth remained intact, protecting him from the weight of the rubble. Rescuer Minyar Collado revealed that when they first reached him, the man asked them not to tell his wife he was alive until he was safely out, fearing he might not survive the extraction.<\/p>\n
His wife, who had spent days in uncertainty, described the news of his survival as a “ray of light in the darkness.” The couple has two children, aged eight and ten.<\/p>\n
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, who monitored the mission, noted that the teams had to navigate aftershocks and create new tunnels to reach the victim. Venezuelan officials, including Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, hailed the rescue as a “true miracle” that brings hope to the nation.<\/p>\n
