A 57-year-old Ukrainian national has been deported from Poland after being identified and charged for illegally catching a large catfish from Balaton Lake in Warsaw’s Gocław district.
Illegal Fishing Exposure
The incident at Balaton Lake in the Praga-Południe district gained public attention after photos and videos of a large catfish being removed from the water were circulated on social media. The footage prompted immediate outcry from local residents and the angling community.
Swift Police Intervention
Officers from the Warsaw VII District Police Headquarters launched an investigation following media reports. Criminal investigators quickly identified the 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen as the person responsible for catching the fish and placed him under arrest.
Deportation and Border Enforcement
The suspect faced formal charges regarding the illegal catch. Following the investigation, the police requested intervention from the Border Guard. Authorities determined that the man’s actions posed a threat to public order, resulting in an official decision to mandate his departure from the country.
Ban on Re-entry
After finalizing the necessary administrative procedures, Border Guard officers escorted the man to the state border and handed him over to Ukrainian authorities. Additionally, he was issued a formal ban on re-entering Poland and the entire Schengen area.
