Podlaskie: 10‑Year‑Old’s Mysterious Death in Gródko, Autopsy Results Released

Investigators in Podlaskie report that a 10‑year‑old girl from Gródko died after falling from a playground, with preliminary autopsy showing no mechanical injuries.

Preliminary Autopsy Finds No Mechanical Injuries

On 12 December prosecutors announced that a post‑mortem of a 10‑year‑old girl from Gródko revealed no mechanical injuries that could explain her death; she died the following day. Chief prosecutor Elwira Laskowska told the Polish Press Agency that examinations excluded typical head‑injury causes such as subdural hematomas. Histopathological tests have been ordered to determine the actual cause of death.

Investigation Launches into Possible Negligence by Caregiver

The Białystok District Prosecutor’s Office is probing whether a person with a duty of care exposed the 10‑year‑old student to an immediate or indirect risk of life loss. Investigators are examining the possibility of inadvertent homicide and have secured school surveillance footage to aid the inquiry.

School Incident and Failure to Inform Parents

Prosecutors say the child’s fall occurred during play on 5 December, yet no medical responders were summoned and teachers failed to notify her parents. The girl survived the fall but died during the night at home, her mother discovering her in the morning and attempting to awaken her. The school claimed the child reported feeling fine after the fall, which is why help was not called.
