Minister suggests co-chair model with Hennig-Kloska for Poland 2050 party, causing internal conflict.
Leadership Proposal Sparks Controversy
The Minister of Funds and Regional Policy proposed a change in the leadership formula for the Poland 2050 party on Monday. In a message to party activists first published by Wirtualna Polska, she suggested that she and Paulina Hennig-Kloska could co-chair the party. The decision on this matter would be made not by the National Council, but by a broader body – the National Congress of Poland 2050.
The proposal by the head of MFiPR faces opposition from supporters of Hennig-Kloska, who evaluate it as a “cry of despair” and a “fight for life” by Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. According to them, Poland 2050 will likely not agree to such a variant, which would also require changing the statute of the formation.
Party Leadership in Limbo
The minister herself claims that the proposal was not coordinated with her. “I believe that the democratic process in the party that we began on January 10 should be concluded,” adds Hennig-Kloska in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
On Monday evening, the National Council of Poland 2050 will meet again in an online format. It will continue the discussions interrupted on Friday, during which a decision should be made on what next regarding the election of the party chairman – whether only the second round of elections will be repeated or the entire electoral procedure.
It is unknown whether Szymon Hołownia will participate in the meeting, as at the time of his start (6:00 PM), he will be on a plane returning from a foreign trip. “I suspect he may not make it,” admits one of the current leader’s collaborators.
Hołownia Withdraws from Leadership Race
According to our information, a more likely scenario is the repetition of the second round, especially as Szymon Hołownia ultimately resigned from the contest for further leadership of the party on Monday.
“I have conveyed to the members of the National Council in a cordial message today that the decisions of the candidates running for the position of Chairperson lead me to hand over to them full responsibility for the next decisions concerning the party,” wrote the Vice-Marshal of the Sejm on Twitter.
