Poland’s Funds Minister suggests new leadership structure where she would share party leadership with Hennig-Kloska, sparking internal debate.
Leadership Proposal
Minister of Funds and Regional Policy proposed on Monday a change in Poland 2050’s leadership structure. According to activists first reported by Wirtualna Polska, she suggested that she and Paulina Hennig-Kloska should co-chair the party, with the decision requiring approval from the National Congress rather than the smaller National Council.
Party Opposition
The proposal faces opposition from Hennig-Kloska’s supporters, who describe it as a “cry of despair” and “fight for survival” by Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. Party members reportedly disagree with this approach, which would also necessitate changing the formation’s statutes.
Hennig-Kloska’s Stance
Minister Hennig-Kloska stated the proposal was not coordinated with her. “I believe we need to conclude the democratic process in the party that we began on January 10th,” she added in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
Party Meeting Planned
On Monday evening, Poland 2050’s National Council will reconvene online to continue meetings interrupted on Friday. The council must decide whether to repeat only the second round of leadership elections or restart the entire electoral procedure.
It remains uncertain if Szymon Hołownia will attend, as he will be on a plane returning from a foreign trip during the meeting’s scheduled start time.
Hołownia’s Withdrawal
According to party sources, the more likely scenario is repeating the second round of elections, especially since Szymon Hołownia has withdrawn from leading the party. “I informed the National Council members today that the decisions of the candidates for chairwoman lead me to hand over full responsibility for future party decisions to them,” Hołownia wrote as Vice-Marshal of the Sejm on Twitter.
