Poland Announces Fluctuating Fuel Price Caps for April 8th

New maximum fuel prices in Poland, effective Thursday, April 8th, show increases for gasoline and a decrease for diesel, according to the Ministry of Energy.

Fuel Prices Rise and Fall Simultaneously

Effective Thursday, April 8th, the maximum price per liter of 95 octane gasoline will be 6.27 zł, 98 octane gasoline will be 6.88 zł, and diesel fuel will be 7.83 zł, according to a Wednesday announcement from the Minister of Energy.

This means gasoline price limits will increase compared to Wednesday, while diesel prices will be lowered.

New Fuel Prices: What are the Limits?

The official announcement published in the Polish Monitor on Wednesday states that the maximum price for a liter of 95 octane unleaded gasoline, including VAT, will be 6.27 zł. The price of 98 octane unleaded gasoline with VAT will not exceed 6.88 zł per liter, and the maximum price for diesel fuel will be 7.83 zł per liter, including VAT.

Price Changes Compared to Previous Levels

The maximum prices for both types of gasoline will be higher on Thursday than on Wednesday. Conversely, the maximum diesel prices will be lower than on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, March 31st, the first day of the maximum price regulations, a liter of 95 octane gasoline cost a maximum of 6.16 zł, 98 octane gasoline cost 6.76 zł, and diesel fuel cost 7.60 zł.

How are Maximum Fuel Prices Determined in Poland?

According to regulations from the Ministry of Energy, an announcement regarding maximum fuel prices is published daily on weekdays. The maximum price is valid from the day following its publication in the Polish Monitor.

If announced before non-working days and holidays, the rate will be valid until the next working day, inclusive. Selling above the maximum price is punishable by a fine of up to 1 million zł, and inspections are carried out by the National Tax Administration.

Price Calculation Formula

The maximum price is determined using a specific formula, including the average wholesale price of fuels on the domestic market, plus excise duty, fuel fee, a sales margin of 0.30 zł per liter, and VAT.
