Poland Announces Higher Fuel Price Caps for Weekend

Poland’s Energy Minister announced increased maximum fuel prices effective Saturday, impacting weekend travel costs across the country.

New Maximum Fuel Prices Announced

The Energy Minister has announced new maximum fuel prices. A liter of 95 octane gasoline will cost no more than 6.17 zł, 98 octane gasoline will be capped at 6.71 zł, and diesel fuel at 7.01 zł, according to a Friday announcement.

These prices represent an increase in the maximum prices for all fuels.

Current Prices vs. New Caps

Currently, as of Friday, a liter of 95 octane gasoline costs no more than 6.03 zł, 98 octane gasoline is capped at 6.62 zł, and diesel fuel at 6.79 zł.

Future Price Updates

The next announcement regarding maximum fuel prices from the Energy Minister will be published on Monday and will determine prices for Tuesday.

Regulations and Enforcement

According to regulations, the energy ministry publishes an announcement regarding maximum fuel prices daily on weekdays. The maximum price is valid from the day following its publication in the Polish Monitor.

If announced before non-working days and holidays, the rate applies until the next working day, inclusive. Selling above the maximum price is punishable by a fine of up to 1 million zł, and inspections are carried out by the National Tax Administration.

Price Calculation Formula

The maximum price is determined by a specific formula, including the average wholesale price of fuels on the domestic market, plus excise duty, fuel fee, a sales margin of 0.30 zł per liter, and VAT.

Tax Reductions in Effect

A regulation reducing VAT on fuel from 23% to 8% and a regulation reducing excise duty are in effect until April 30th. Excise duty is reduced by 29 gr per liter of gasoline and 28 gr per liter of diesel fuel, to the lowest level permitted by the European Union.
