Poland’s meteorological institute forecasts cooler temperatures and mixed precipitation, including rain and wet snow, for Easter weekend, April 5-6.
Cooler Temperatures Expected for Easter
According to Agnieszka Prasek, spokesperson for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), a cooling trend is anticipated for Easter Sunday and Monday, April 5th and 6th. Nighttime temperatures are expected to range from 0 to 3°C.
The coldest temperatures will be in the mountains, potentially dropping to around -12°C overnight. Prasek noted these are long-term forecasts with some uncertainty, but a cooling trend is likely.
Risk of Frost
The IMGW’s five-week forecast indicates a moderate, regionally varied probability of temperatures falling below 0°C on Easter Sunday. The risk of frost in the foothills is 45 percent.
In central and western Poland, from Wielkopolska to Mazowsze, the possibility of sub-zero temperatures ranges from 14-20 percent. On the coast, the frost risk is lower, at 10-14 percent. Easter Monday sees the highest chance of freezing temperatures again in southern Poland (36 percent), with 10-14 percent in the center and 6-8 percent in Pomerania.
Average Precipitation Levels
The first week of April, including Easter Sunday, may bring temperatures approximately 1-2°C below the long-term average (1991-2020), which is around 7.5-8.5°C.
The average maximum daily rainfall in April between 1991-2020 exceeded 40 mm in some voivodeships. The IMGW’s five-week forecast suggests the highest probability of rainfall exceeding 20 mm during the holidays is in southern Poland and the foothills (28 to 52 percent).
