Polish meteorological service warned that nights from Thursday to Friday could see freezing roads across 13 regions, as temperatures drop to -9°C or lower in some areas.
Freezing Warnings for 13 Regions
The Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first‑tier frost warnings for 13 provinces: Warmian‑Masurian, Lesser Poland, Silesian, Opole, Upper Silesian, and partial alerts for Podlaskie, Pomeranian, Kuyavian‑Pomeranian, Masovian, Greater Poland, Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, and Podkarpackie. The agency forecast that wet surfaces such as roads and pavements could freeze, with minimum temperatures ranging from –6 °C to –3 °C. In foothill areas drops could reach –9 °C, while ground temperatures could fall to –9 °C to –7 °C, and as low as –12 °C in foothills. Alerts will be in effect from 19:00 on Thursday, 27 November, until 10:00 on Friday, 28 November.
Nighttime Overview: Frost and Precipitation
From Thursday night into Friday, the forecast calls for wholly clouded skies and significant precipitation across most of Poland, with occasional clearer patches in the west and centre. Eastern sections may see light snowfall, while the north expects rain‑with‑snow or rain. Localized freezing fog in the southern areas will reduce visibility to roughly 200 m.
Typical overnight lows are projected between –7 °C and –3 °C, with warmer daytime highs from –1 °C to 2 °C in eastern and north‑western outcrops, and up to 4 °C on the coast. Foothill zones may see temperatures drop locally to –11 °C, leading to wet‑road freezing in spots. Winds are expected to be weak to moderate, but on the coast gusts up to 60 km/h could occur, coming from the south‑west and south, particularly in the southern‑eastern corner from the west.
Friday’s Weather Outlook
On Friday, 28 November, IMGW foresees continued extensive overcast conditions with clearer gaps in central stretches and in southwestern zones and high elevations. Northern areas will receive rain or drizzle, while southeastern parts might experience diminishing snowfall or drizzle. Maximum temperatures will range from –1 °C to 2 °C broadly, rising to 3 °C–6 °C in the north‑west. Foothills remain cooler, about –3 °C. Winds stay weak, occasionally moderate, with stronger gusts up to 60 km/h over the sea from southern directions at northern stretches.
