Poland’s meteorological institute has issued warnings for strong winds and potential rainfall across the country, prompting emergency services to prepare.
Weather Deterioration in Poland
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) forecasts cloud cover across most of Poland on Wednesday, March 25th, with scattered showers, particularly in the west, potentially moving with the wind.
Synopticians predict stronger winds in some regions, especially during storms expected in the westernmost parts of the country.
IMGW Issues Wind Warnings
IMGW has issued a first-degree warning for winds with average speeds of 20 to 35 km/h, and gusts up to 75 km/h from the southwest. This warning is valid until 5:00 PM on Wednesday for several voivodeships.
Regional Alerts
A similar alert will be in effect for a shorter period (until 1:00 PM) in the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship, covering the counties of Zgorzelec, Luban, Lwówek Śląski, Karkonosze, Jelenia Góra, Złotoryja, Kamienna Góra, Wałbrzych, Świdnica, Dzierżoniów, Kłodzko, Ząbkowice Śląskie, and Jawor.
Government Preparedness Meeting
The Government Centre for Security (RCB) reported that a meeting was held on Tuesday with services and voivodes, along with the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the RCB, due to the “forecasted weather deterioration resulting from the development of the Genoa low.”
The meeting was chaired by Wiesław Leśniakiewicz, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, and included Magdalena Roguska, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure, IMGW, the General Directorate for National Roads and Highways, PGW “Wody Polskie”, the State Fire Service, and voivodes with their respective Police and State Fire Service departments.
Hydrological and Meteorological Situation
During the meeting, the current hydrological and meteorological situation was presented. RCB stated that no threats related to water levels have been recorded, and the situation on rivers remains stable.
However, a rise in water levels is forecast in mountainous areas, where “local exceedances of contractual water levels” may occur.
Emergency Services on Standby
“Predicted intense rainfall and snowfall are being monitored by relevant services, and the hydrological situation on rivers remains under control. Emergency services are on standby to ensure safety and efficiently manage any difficulties that may arise,” RCB reported.
Further warnings will be issued depending on the development of weather and hydrological conditions.
