Poland’s military air defense system has been activated over southern regions near the Ukraine border to protect against Soviet-era high-altitude drones.

The Polish Operational Command issued a statement noting operational military aircraft have been deployed in Poland’s airspace due to the increased threat of unmanned aerial systems over Ukraine’s border regions near Poland.

Policzanie airspace is now at the highest level of readiness with Polish and allied aircraft in operation, alongside land-based air defense systems and radio-locational reconnaissance systems.

Taken as a precautionary measure, Lublin Airport and its surrounding control zone have been closed to all air traffic operations.
