Poland’s civil aviation authorities extended the EP R129 restricted zone along the Ukraine‑Belarus border until 9 March 2026, a measure announced on 28 November 2025 to safeguard national security.
Extension of Existing Restrictions
On 28 November 2025, the Polish Civil Aviation Authority (PAŻP) renewed the EP R129 restricted airspace along the northern border with Ukraine and Belarus until 9 March 2026, pursuant to the Ministry of Infrastructure regulation issued on 18 January 2019.
Map and Rationale
The decision, made at the request of the Territorial Defence Command, was implemented “to ensure state security.” A public map was released, clearly outlining the affected area and noting that such restrictions are routinely introduced following the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
Commercial Passenger Flights Unaffected
The restrictions do not impact passenger aviation, as the limiting level starts approximately 3 km above ground (FL 095). The zone extends 26 to 50 km inland, depending on the location.
Allowed Military and Special Operations
Military aircraft and operations under the codes GARDA, ALPHA SCRAMBLE, and statuses HEAD, STATE, SAR, HOSP, MEDEVAC, FFR are permitted within the zone. Nighttime operations remain prohibited. General aviation is allowed day‑time only if a flight plan, radio, and transponder are provided.
Unmanned Aircraft and State‑Run Flights
Civil unmanned aircraft can operate during daylight, provided flight plans and necessary equipment are in place; night flights are banned. State aircraft and air‑rescue teams may continue missions within the zone.
