Polish firefighters tackled more than 2,300 incidents caused by heavy snowfall on Sunday, Nov 23, as the Institute of Meteorology warned of sleet, blizzards, strong winds and frost.
Firefighters Tackle Snowstorm
On Sunday, November 23, firefighters nationwide received more than 2,300 calls to address the fallout from heavy snowfall. By 3 p.m., the total number of incidents reported reached 2,348. Tasks included removing fallen trees and broken branches.
The Subcarpathian voivodeship recorded the highest number of interventions (1,460), followed by Lesser Poland (741) and Lublin (115).
Weather Alerts for Monday
Synoptists predict dangerous weather conditions will persist on Monday, November 24. Temperatures in the Podhale area could plunge to as low as –15 °C overnight.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued second‑level warnings for sleet and snowstorms from 2 a.m. to 4 p.m. in several counties of Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian voivodeships. First‑level warnings for sleet and snowstorms apply from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. in specified counties of Silesian and Lesser Poland voivodeships.
Wind and Frost Warnings
First‑level alerts for strong winds and frost were released for Monday. Wind warnings cover a number of counties in Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Frost warnings target Nowotarski and Tatra counties in Lesser Poland, where nighttime temperatures may drop to –15 °C. These alerts remain active from Sunday night until Monday 8:30 a.m.
Regional Intervention Breakdown
Subcarpathian: 1,460 incidents; Lesser Poland: 741 incidents; Lublin: 115 incidents. The remaining calls were distributed across other voivodeships.
