Poland Introduces Nationwide Voluntary Military Training for All Citizens

Poland will launch a nationwide voluntary military training programme on November 6, calling on every citizen to contribute to national resilience, says Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz.

Nationwide Training Program Announced

On 6 November Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz announced a country‑wide programme of voluntary military training aimed at enhancing national resilience. The announcement will be made jointly with the Chief of the General Staff and Minister Tomczyk.

Who Will Be Called to Service

The minister clarified that not everyone will become a soldier; some will be designated as reservists with specific duty locations, others will participate in civil defence, and many will remain in their homes, towns, and workplaces.

Pilot Phase and Full Roll‑Out

A pilot for the programme is scheduled in November and December, with full implementation commencing next year. The initiative is open from junior to senior levels, allowing anyone to retrain.

Education With the Army Programme

Already underway, the “Education With the Army” initiative will train 300,000 students this year, combining academic learning with military drills.

Rationale Behind the Exercises

Kosiniak‑Kamysz cited serious threats such as full‑scale aggression from Ukraine, hybrid attacks, sabotage and breaches at the border and in airspace. He stressed that every citizen is expected to contribute to defence, with no exemptions.
