Poland Issues Interpol Red Notices Over Suspected Sabotage

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced on Wednesday, Dec. 17 that Interpol Red Notices were issued for men suspected of sabotage for Russian intelligence operations in Garwoliński County.

Interpol Red Notices Issued

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, Poland’s Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) announced the issuance of Interpol Red Notices against men alleged to have carried out acts of sabotage on behalf of Russian intelligence in Garwoliński County. A Red Notice indicates that the individual is internationally sought on behalf of a member state for suspected serious offences and is shared with authorities in over 190 countries.

Earlier Notice for Ukrainian Nationals

Earlier, on Dec. 7, police announced that two Ukrainian men, 41‑year‑old Jewhenij Ivanov and 39‑year‑old Oleksandr Kononov, were also subject to Interpol Red Notices. Police spokeswoman Katarzyna Nowak said that the Red Notice would greatly facilitate their arrest, describing it as the highest level of worldwide pursuit.

Alleged Sabotage Locations and Escape

The suspects are accused of damaging railway tracks using explosives near Mika in the Masovian Voivodeship and near Gołąb near Puławy. After staging the sabotage, the saboteurs allegedly fled to Belarus. The incident involved a segment of the railway and threatened the traction system beneath the tracks.

Broader Context and Statements

The Interpol notices highlight Poland’s ongoing concern over Russian‑backed sabotage attempts aimed at destabilising the country’s infrastructure. The MSWiA’s statement underscores the role of international law enforcement cooperation in countering such threats.
