Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) and Government Security Centre (RCB) have issued extensive wind warnings for a large portion of the country, effective through Monday evening.
Strong Wind Warnings Issued Across Poland
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has warned of strong wind gusts across twelve voivodeships, covering areas from northwestern to southeastern Poland. The most significant conditions are forecast for the coastal region, where the Government Security Centre (RCB) has also issued alerts.
Wind speeds in gusts could reach up to 95 km/h along the coast.
Highest Alert Level in Pomerania and Sławienski Region
The highest, Level II alert is in effect in the northern part of Pomeranian Voivodeship (Lębork, Puck, Słupsk, Wejherowo counties, and Słupsk city) and in Sławienski County in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, valid until Monday.
Wind gusts in these areas may reach up to 85 km/h, and occasionally 95 km/h. IMGW anticipates these peak values around midday and in the afternoon, with average wind speeds of 45-60 km/h.
Safety Recommendations from RCB
The Government Security Centre (RCB) has also issued alerts for these counties, advising residents to exercise caution outdoors and to avoid standing or parking under trees.
Level I Warnings for a Broader Area
Level I warnings remain in effect for the rest of West Pomeranian and Pomeranian Voivodeships, as well as the entire Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Warmia-Masuria, Mazowieckie, Podlaskie, and Lubelskie Voivodeships.
Additionally, parts of Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Łódzkie, Świętokrzyskie, and Podkarpackie Voivodeships are under Level I warnings. These regions will experience average wind speeds of 35-45 km/h, with gusts up to 70-85 km/h.
Alerts Valid Until Monday Evening
The warnings, both Level I and Level II, indicate conditions conducive to dangerous meteorological phenomena that could cause material damage and pose a threat to health and life. The alerts are valid until 9:00 PM on Monday.
