Poland Launches Nationwide Voluntary Military Training Programme

Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz announced on 6 November a national voluntary military training programme that will begin in stages, with full roll‑out next year.

Military Training Launch

Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz declared that on Thursday 6 November a nationwide programme of general military training for society will be announced. Tomorrow, together with Chief of General Staff Gen. Kukuła and Defence Minister Tomczyk, they will present the public voluntary defence and military training plan, a programme to build state resilience. Pilot training will run in November and December, with full implementation starting next year. From junior to senior, everyone will be able to participate. The “Education with the Army” programme is currently training 300,000 students this year.

Will Everyone Be Drafted?

The minister emphasised that “for everyone there will be a tailor‑made programme of building state resilience.” He added that “not everyone will become a soldier.” Those called up as reservists will have designated places of activity. Those who will not be drafted into the army will serve in civilian defence. Others will remain in their localities, homes, and workplaces. Those are the categories of citizens that the programme will address.

Reasons for Implementing Exercises

He explained that the training is vital due to serious threats. “We live in times when the line between war and peace blurs. A full‑scale aggression is waged against Ukraine, and hybrid attacks are directed at Poland—sabotage, arson, attempts to destroy infrastructure, cyber‑attacks. War is at the border, at the Baltic, and in the airspace, which must be fiercely protected daily.” All citizens are called into defence; no one is exempt.
