Poland’s Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) will begin accepting applications March 30th for 335 million złoty in subsidies for photovoltaic installations and energy storage.
New Funding Pool for Renewable Energy
The Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) is launching a new subsidy program for photovoltaic (PV) installations and energy storage systems. Applications will be accepted from March 30th to April 24th.
The program, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), has a budget of 335 million złoty. It aims to provide continuity of support following the conclusion of the sixth edition of the “Mój Prąd” program and before the launch of a program funded by the Modernization Fund.
Transitional Support Mechanism
The MKiŚ describes the new program as a “one-time, transitional support mechanism” designed to stabilize the market until the full Modernization Fund program is operational.
Program Details and Eligibility
The program will operate on a reimbursement basis, covering investments made between August 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025. Installations must be connected to the power grid; off-grid systems are not eligible.
Beneficiaries will include individual consumers who generate electricity for their own use and have an agreement in place for feeding energy into the grid. Eligible installations include PV systems ranging from 2 kW to 20 kW, energy storage systems with a minimum capacity of 2 kWh, and thermal storage systems with a minimum capacity of 20 cubic decimeters.
Subsidy Amounts
Subsidies will cover up to 50% of eligible costs, with a maximum of 28,000 złoty. This breaks down to a maximum of 7,000 złoty for PV installations, 16,000 złoty for energy storage, and 5,000 złoty for thermal storage. Only one energy storage and one thermal storage unit can be included per PV installation.
Program Objectives and Market Impact
The MKiŚ believes the program will address public expectations and market needs. Increased self-consumption and the number of energy storage systems are expected to reduce peak grid load, lower stabilization costs, and stabilize energy prices for consumers.
Future Support Programs
Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), indicated in December that a “fast-track” support program for PV installations may be launched in 2026, potentially utilizing KPO funds. This would serve as a bridge before a more comprehensive program focused on subsidies for energy storage for PV owners.
European Investment Bank Approval
In March, Minister of Climate Paulina Hennig-Kloska announced that the European Investment Bank (EIB) had approved the launch of five programs (totaling 5.5 billion złoty) funded by the Modernization Fund, including subsidies for home energy storage. These grants could reach up to 30% of costs, with 1 billion złoty allocated to this specific program.
“Mój Prąd” Program History
The sixth edition of the “Mój Prąd” program, with a budget of 1.85 billion złoty, concluded last year. Over 124,000 applications were submitted, with 76,000 specifically for energy storage. The program offered funding for PV panels or PV installations combined with energy or thermal storage.
Over 602,000 beneficiaries have benefited from all editions of the “Mój Prąd” program (launched in 2019), receiving a total of 3.6 billion złoty in funding.
