Across Poland, schools and preschools were evacuated Monday following a wave of bomb threats, though initial investigations revealed the alerts to be false.
Nationwide Evacuations and Emergency Response
Children were evacuated from educational facilities across Poland as emergency services responded to reports of bomb threats. The evacuations affected schools and preschools from Warsaw to Poznań.
Despite the widespread disruption, initial investigations indicate that the bomb threats were false alarms. However, the paralyzing effect on public institutions is generating significant costs for the state budget.
Organized Nature of the Threats
Monday morning brought a series of concerning events in major Polish cities, placing emergency services on high alert. The reports of explosives in educational facilities prompted immediate evacuations of children and staff.
The scale of the incidents suggests a coordinated effort beyond isolated events, with information cascading to trigger widespread responses.
Specific Locations Affected
In Warsaw, evacuations focused on districts like Bielany and Praga-Południe, including Preschools nr 340 “Kasztanowego Ludka” and nr 397 “Ziarenko”. Similar situations unfolded in Poznań, with interventions at Primary School nr 27 and Preschool nr 155.
Children were only allowed to return to classrooms after thorough searches by specialized explosive ordnance disposal teams.
Economic Impact of False Alarms
Beyond the psychological stress on children and caregivers, the false alarms are incurring substantial economic losses. Each intervention costs tens or even hundreds of thousands of złoty.
The deployment of sapper patrols, fire departments, medical personnel, and traffic blockades place a significant burden on public finances, alongside the disruption of work and parental responsibilities.
Penalties for False Alarms
The Polish justice system is increasing penalties for those making false bomb threats. According to Article 224a of the Penal Code, perpetrators face imprisonment from six months to eight years.
Repeat offenders or those causing threats to multiple people may face sentences ranging from two to fifteen years. Law enforcement has achieved notable successes in apprehending those responsible, including a group linked to over 380 false reports in November 2025.
Safety Protocols and Ongoing Investigations
School administrators and authorities are urged to strictly adhere to fire and civil safety instructions. While most reports are deliberate misinformation, no signal can be dismissed.
The priority remains the safety and health of children, while intensive operational activities are underway to trace the digital footprints of the message authors. The state is sending a clear message that those destabilizing public order will face prosecution and be held accountable for the costs of rescue operations.
Warsaw Sees Over 20 Reports in One Morning
Data from the Warsaw Police Headquarters indicates an exceptionally high volume of reports on Monday. Officers received approximately 20 reports concerning various locations in Warsaw.
The Copernicus Science Centre was a key focus of intervention, with immediate verification of the threat due to the facility’s nature and potential visitor numbers. The centre was thoroughly checked by bomb disposal experts and deemed safe.
Evacuation Decisions Rest with Facility Managers
A preventative evacuation of 10 people in the affected zone of the Copernicus Science Centre was carried out. According to Captain Karolina Jaworska of the State Fire Service, the decision to evacuate rests with the facility manager, who must assess the risk based on the building’s specifics.
Although no dangerous materials were found during Monday’s searches, all procedures must be carried out in accordance with strict safety protocols.
Further Wave of Threats Hits Ursynów District
According to warszawawpigulce.pl, another wave of threats occurred Wednesday morning. Shortly after 8 a.m., dozens of school principals received messages from an anonymous sender reporting an explosive device on the premises.
In Ursynów, evacuations included preschools on Teligi, Na Uboczu, Hirszfelda, Cybisa, and ZWM streets, as well as Preschools nr 79 and nr 400. Several primary schools were also affected, and planned mock exams were cancelled in one location.
Confirmed Coordinated Attack
Emergency services confirm that this is a planned, large-scale operation. A duty officer at the Warsaw City Fire Brigade told Radio dla Ciebie: “Today we have many reports of cascading emails about explosive devices in various parts of Warsaw.”
Police spokesperson Sub-comm. Ewa Kołdys added: “There were many such reports throughout Warsaw. None of them were confirmed.” The situation is ongoing, and police are urging calm while adhering to the instructions of emergency services.
Police Refuse to Release Information
“We are not releasing information about unconfirmed interventions in order not to escalate moods,” the Warsaw Police Headquarters told gazetaprawna.pl.
