Drone Training Base Opens in Lipa

On Wednesday, October 1, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz opened the new drone training site in the village of Lipa in Podkarpackie. The facility was built jointly by Poland and Norway, and the ceremony was attended by defence officials from Norway, Ukraine and the Baltic states.

Training for Ukrainian Soldiers

The base, located within the Army Training Center in Lipa, will be used primarily to train Ukrainian soldiers in drone operations. Kosiniak‑Kamysz said the centre would also foster exchange of experience between Poland and Ukraine in countering Russian drone activity.

Part of Norwegian Support Programme

The training grounds are part of Norway’s broader aid package for Ukraine’s armed forces. The centre is officially named “Camp Jomsborg” and is hosted by Poland. It will host joint drills involving Polish and Ukrainian troops, with participation from other NATO allies.

Future Joint Exercises

The site is expected to host regular combined exercises between Polish and Ukrainian forces and allies. These drills aim to improve interoperability and preparedness against advanced drone threats.
