Poland will officially resume production of anti-personnel mines on February 20 after withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention.
End of Ottawa Convention Period
Starting Friday, February 20, Poland will officially be able to resume the production of anti-personnel mines. On that date, the notice period for the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the production and use of this type of weapon, expires.
Poland’s Previous Commitment
Poland was a signatory to the Ottawa Convention from 2013. During that time, not only were minefields not included in defense plans, but also all military stocks of this combat measure (approximately 1 million units) were eliminated.
Strategic Shift
The resumption of mine production marks a significant shift in Poland’s defense strategy, potentially affecting security dynamics along the eastern border.
