Poland: Three Arrested in Major Illegal Firearms Seizure in Podlaskie Voivodeship

Polish authorities arrested three men in the Podlaskie Voivodeship after discovering a large cache of illegal firearms, ammunition, and related materials.

Illegal Arms Cache Discovered

Police in Podlaskie Voivodeship secured illegal weapons, including pistols, revolvers, hunting rifles, and crossbows, in multiple locations. Three individuals have been charged in connection with the case, with police indicating further arrests are possible.

The operation, supported by counter-terrorism units and canine teams, involved searches of numerous homes and apartments across the region. It was conducted as part of the international “Jad See” initiative aimed at combating arms smuggling, illegal trade, and production.

Inventory of Seized Items

Authorities recovered 18 short firearms – pistols and revolvers – along with a machine pistol, five hunting rifles, four rifles, four air rifles, and a crossbow. Additional items seized included silencers, gun stocks with locks, barrels with chambers, three cans of gunpowder, nearly 8,000 rounds of various caliber ammunition, and approximately 12,500 złoty and 20,000 US dollars.

Concealment and Investigation

The weapons were hidden in various concealed locations, including within the walls of buildings. Ammunition was stored in buckets, cans, cardboard boxes, and plastic bags.

Charges and Potential Penalties

The three arrested men face charges of possessing firearms without the required permits, possessing essential parts of those firearms, and possessing ammunition. A conviction could result in up to eight years in prison.

Police stated the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed against other individuals pending expert analysis.
