New Polish regulations, effective March 30, 2026, will prohibit intentional drifting and riding a motorcycle on one wheel, carrying hefty fines and license suspensions.
New Regulations for Drivers Effective March 30, 2026
As of March 30, 2026, drivers in Poland will face stricter rules regarding dangerous driving maneuvers. A legislative amendment prohibits intentional drifting and riding with one wheel off the ground, with penalties including substantial fines and potential license suspension.
Drifting and “One-Wheel” Riding Prohibited
The new regulations specifically ban intentionally inducing a vehicle to skid – known as drifting – and any situation where a wheel loses contact with the road surface, such as riding a motorcycle on one wheel.
New Offense: Drifting – Regulations Since January 29th
The amendment introduced a new offense to the Polish code of offenses – drifting (Art. 86c k.w.) – which has been in effect since January 29, 2026. A fine of at least 1500 zł (minimum 3000 zł for repeat offenders) will be imposed on anyone who intentionally causes a vehicle to skid on a public road, residential zone, or traffic zone.
If the drifting endangers road safety, the fine increases to at least 2500 zł (minimum 5000 zł for repeat offenders).
Stricter Penalties for Organized Events
Drifting performed during organized events in public spaces – such as illegal rallies or street drift shows – may be classified as a more serious crime under Art. 178c of the Penal Code, punishable by imprisonment of 3 months to 5 years.
Increased Fine Amounts
The maximum fine for drifting or riding “on one wheel” has been increased from 5000 zł to 30,000 zł.
License Suspension for Violations
Drivers violating the new prohibitions will face a mandatory 3-month license suspension, according to Art. 102 para. 1 point 9 of the Act on Drivers, effective March 30, 2026.
Penalty Points and Consequences
In addition to fines and license suspension, drivers will receive 10 penalty points for drifting or riding on one wheel. If the maneuver causes a hazard, such as a collision, 12 penalty points may be issued, totaling up to 22 points.
