Poland’s military announced upcoming supersonic training flights that may produce audible sonic booms across the country.
Scheduled Exercises in the Air
The General Command of the Armed Forces announced that training flights involving supersonic aircraft will take place over Poland. During the exercises, pilots may exceed the sound barrier.
In practice, this means the possibility of what is known as a sonic boom – a short, loud noise that is a natural effect of flying at such speed. Such sounds may be audible to residents in various parts of the country, depending on the area where the activities are conducted.
Is There Anything to Fear?
The military emphasizes that the flights are planned and training exercises. They are part of the routine maintenance of operational readiness of the armed forces.
Operations are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and under the supervision of services responsible for airspace security. As noted in the statement, the activities do not pose a threat to residents or infrastructure. “Citizens have no reason to fear and can feel safe,” assures the General Command.
Supersonic Flights
Flights exceeding the sound barrier are one of the elements of training fighter pilots. Maintaining operational readiness requires regular exercises in various conditions, including at high speeds.
The military also thanked residents for their understanding regarding possible acoustic disturbances.
