Poland to Offer Vision-Impaired Residents Additional Monthly Benefit

Poland will provide up to 215.84 złoty monthly to individuals with vision impairments starting in 2026, regardless of income.

Eligibility for the 2026 Care Allowance

Individuals with vision impairments may be eligible for a care allowance in 2026 if they meet specific criteria outlined in regulations. The benefit is paid by MOPS (Municipal Social Assistance Centers) and is available to:

Children and youth up to 16 years of age with a disability certificate, individuals with a significant degree of disability, those with a moderate degree of disability if it occurred before the age of 21, and seniors aged 75 and over by right.

Vision Impairment Alone Is Not Enough

Receiving the care allowance requires more than just a diagnosis of a vision impairment. The key factor is the impact of the condition on daily life – the inability to live independently.

The allowance is intended to help beneficiaries cover the costs of their care. Importantly, there is no income criterion; payment is not dependent on the beneficiary’s earnings or assets.

Conditions That May Qualify for the Allowance

While there is no definitive list of diseases guaranteeing the allowance, conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy are often grounds for obtaining the benefit.

Assessment Criteria: Beyond Eye Exam Results

The assessment committees will evaluate an applicant’s ability to perform daily tasks, such as independent movement, meal preparation, and personal hygiene, to determine their need for assistance.

How to Apply for the Vision Impairment Care Allowance

Applicants must gather medical documentation, including a health certificate valid for 30 days. The application is submitted to the County Team for Disability Certification, and upon receiving a disability certificate, to MOPS/GOPS or through the Emp@tia portal.

Allowance Amount and Common Application Errors

The amount of the care allowance is 215.84 złoty per month and is not indexed annually. Common reasons for application rejection include incomplete documentation and failure to demonstrate inability to live independently.
