Reopening of Border Crossings
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday that the government has decided to reopen border crossings with Belarus, which were closed due to military exercises. The crossings will be reopened at midnight on Wednesday.
The decision was made in conjunction with the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, who will issue a relevant regulation. Tusk stated that the exercises have ended, reducing the threats associated with aggressive behavior from eastern neighbors.
Zapad Military Exercises
The joint Belarusian-Russian Zapad-2025 military exercises took place from September 12 to 16 on the territory of Belarus and the Russian Federation. Initially, it was reported that 13 to 30 thousand soldiers participated, but Russian President Vladimir Putin later stated that 100 thousand military personnel were involved.
Security Situation
Premier Tusk emphasized that the situation is not optimistic and does not provide satisfaction, as it is related to tensions from the war in Ukraine. However, he noted that Poland’s exercises, mainly with Polish forces, were assessed as more effective than the Zapad exercises.
