Poland to Send MiG-29 Fighter Jets to Ukraine

Polish Defense Ministry confirms decision to transfer up to nine MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine amid ongoing technical discussions.

Decision Made on MiG Transfer

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski has announced that a decision has been made regarding the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. The aircraft, numbering up to nine older models, will support Kyiv in its fight against Russian aggression.

According to Zalewski, technical discussions are currently underway with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense to finalize the details of the transfer.

Part of NATO’s Support Strategy

The donation of the MiG-29 aircraft is part of NATO’s allied policy to support Ukraine and maintain security on the alliance’s eastern flank. The tasks of the withdrawn MiG-29 aircraft will be taken over by F-16 and FA-50 aircraft.

Presidents Discuss Formalities

Polish President Karol Nawrocki informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting in mid-December that the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft had been settled, with only formalities remaining. The presidents established common strategic goals regarding security, economy, and historical issues during their discussions.
