Poland to Temporarily Close Border with Belarus, Minsk Calls it “Unlawful”

Polish decision to close border with Belarus declared “unlawful” by Minsk, which claims it impedes international connections and harms several countries on both east and west.

Polish Closure Draws Minsk’s Ire

The Polish decision to halt both human and cargo traffic across the border has been deemed an “abuse of geographical position” by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minsk claims that such measures hinder the functioning of international connections and cause harm to multiple nations, both in the east and west.

Belarusian Statement on Closure

The Belarusian government has described the Polish action as “vulnerable to hiding its own actions” and claims that Poland’s decisions escalate tensions in the region rather than resolve them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this course of action appears entirely unprovoked, particularly considering the full openness and transparency of Belarus’s exercises for the international community.

EU Concerns Raised

The European diplomat was assured by the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the European Union to the Republic of Belarus that the actions of Poland will be assessed to determine the appropriateness of the measures and the actual level of threat.
