Poland’s Honorary Pension: Eligibility and New Rules for Centenarians

Starting in 2025, Polish citizens who reach their 100th birthday receive an automatic monthly honorary pension, with the current benefit amount set at 6,938.92 PLN gross as of March 2026.

The Honorary Pension Explained

The honorary pension is a special financial recognition provided by the Polish state to citizens who have turned 100. With the population of centenarians in Poland steadily rising, reaching nearly 8,800 individuals according to 2024 statistics, the state has standardized the distribution process.

As of March 2026, the benefit amount is 6,938.92 PLN gross per month. This figure is subject to annual indexation every March, ensuring the real value of the support remains consistent with inflation data provided by Statistics Poland (GUS).

Automatic Enrollment Procedures

New regulations effective January 1, 2025, have simplified the application process. Most centenarians now receive the payment automatically from the relevant office, such as ZUS or KRUS, without needing to submit paperwork.

To qualify for automatic payment, an individual must be receiving an existing pension or disability benefit at the time they turn 100. If a beneficiary is eligible for multiple payments, they will receive only one honorary pension, with the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) managing the disbursement.

When an Application is Required

Individuals who have never held the right to any retirement or disability benefits must apply for the honorary pension manually. This application can be filed as early as 30 days before the person’s 100th birthday.

Applicants should submit the ESH form to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). If the birthday has already passed, the application should be filed immediately to ensure payments begin from the month of submission.

Challenging Benefit Decisions

The Social Insurance Institution is responsible for issuing decisions regarding these benefits. If a decision is disputed, the beneficiary has the right to request a re-examination by the President of ZUS.

Should the internal review prove unsatisfactory, a formal complaint may be filed with the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, submitted in writing through the President of ZUS. Further adjustments to the benefit amount are expected in February 2027.
