In Poland, the Large Family Card (KDR) offers significant discounts and social benefits to parents of three or more children, including specific legal exceptions for those currently raising fewer.
Eligibility and Exceptions for the Large Family Card
The Large Family Card (KDR) is a program providing discounts from public institutions and private partners. It is available to Polish citizens, selected foreigners, and EU/EFTA citizens residing legally in Poland. While primarily for families with at least three children, legal exceptions exist.
Since 2019, eligibility has expanded to parents who raised at least three children in the past, those with adult, independent children, or those who have lost a child. The death of a child does not result in the loss of card rights, regardless of whether any children remain dependent on the parents.
Application Process and Validity
Children may use the KDR until age 18, or until age 25 if they are students, with validity lasting until the end of September of the given school or academic year. Parents are granted eligibility indefinitely.
Applications can be submitted in person at municipal offices or electronically via the Emp@tia portal. All eligible family members must be included in the application.
New Social Privileges for 2026
By 2026, the KDR will extend beyond discounts to include social support and professional activation. Unemployment benefit periods for cardholders will be extended from the standard 180 days to 365 days, providing more time to find employment.
Large families will also receive priority access to professional training vouchers and streamlined support from vocational advisors to help match job offers with their experience and capabilities.
