Over 500 pupils and staff were evacuated from Primary School No.5 in Siedlice on Dec. 11 after reports of sickness and a suspected chemical spray, leaving five injured and one hospitalized.
Suspected Chemical Release Triggers Evacuation
At about 12:30 on Dec. 11, authorities received a report of a possible chemical spray at the school, prompting the decision to evacuate immediately.
537 individuals – 487 pupils and 50 staff – were moved from the premises, including the building undergoing renovation.
Immediate Response by Firefighters and Medical Teams
Fire Brigade units, including a specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group, arrived along with medical rescue teams to provide care and ensure safe evacuation.
Five pupils and one teacher were reported injured; one pupil required hospitalization for further tests.
Investigation of Building B and Possible Sources
The evacuated building B is currently undergoing thermal modernization, with construction activities that could affect ventilation and indoor climate.
Firefighters conducted air‑quality measurements to detect any chemical substances, but no specific compound has yet been identified.
School Closure and Future Plans
Classes in building B were suspended pending the outcome of investigations, with pupils removed to their homes and alternative arrangements being considered.
