A poll shows Polish people give Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski a mostly negative rating for his activity on social media platform X.
Poll Results on Sikorski’s X Activity
A United Surveys by IBRiS poll for Wirtualna Polska asked respondents how they rate Radosław Sikorski’s activity on platform X, including his public discussions with Elon Musk. 11% rate this activity “decidedly positive,” while 14.1% rate it “rather positive.” 17.4% hold a “rather negative” opinion, and 26% rate it “decidedly negative.” 31.5% had no opinion on the matter.
Coalition vs. Opposition Voters
Among voters of the current ruling coalition (KO, New Left, PSL and Poland 2050), 45% positively evaluate Sikorski’s social media activity, while 19% view it negatively. For PiS and Confederation voters, only 4% have a positive view, while 79% are negative. Radosław Sikorski has been using X (formerly Twitter) since 2010 and has gathered over 1.1 million followers.
Sikorski vs. Elon Musk
In January, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported that Russia was equipping some of its drones with American Starlink satellite communication systems, making the drones less vulnerable to Ukrainian electronic warfare systems. Sikorski commented on these reports, addressing SpaceX CEO Elon Musk: “Hey, big guy, why don’t you stop Russians from using Starlinks to attack Ukrainian cities. Earning from war crimes could damage your brand.” Musk responded: “This moron doesn’t even realize that Starlink is the foundation of Ukrainian military communications.” When reports emerged days later about Russians being cut off from the system, Sikorski thanked Musk, noting “better late than never.”
Sikorski’s Political Comments
Also in January, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister commented on a statement by PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, stating that he “is once again scaring Poles with the European Union.” “The Union is governed by the Lisbon Treaty, which you negotiated in your wisdom, and your brother ratified. If you want to live outside the Union, by all means, judge Szmydt is waiting,” Sikorski wrote, referring to a Polish judge who fled to Belarus. In a comment to Karol Nawrocki’s veto, he stated that the president is “loyal to his sponsors: one veto for crypto exchanges, one for big tech.” Addressing Zbigniew Ziobry in Hungary, he wrote that “he sympathizes with the Hungarian bread he also tasted,” adding “though I was fleeing communism, while you were fleeing Polish prosecutors and courts that you yourself reformed.” In 2021, there was a heated exchange between Sikorski and then MEP of Solidarna Polska, with the politician then sitting in the European Parliament telling the female politician to “go bang your fat head.”
