Poles Weigh In on Proposed 9 Billion Zloty Tax Plan

A public survey reveals strong support for a Polish tax proposal to raise the second tax bracket to 140,000 Zloty, estimated to cost 9 billion Zloty.

Tax Hike Proposal Returns to Public Debate

On April 16th, a proposal from Poland 2050 regarding raising the second tax bracket was discussed, with support from Karol Nawrocki. The topic resurfaced, prompting a public opinion poll to gauge reaction to the proposed changes.

Readers were asked whether the suggested changes were a good idea, with results detailed in an article featuring Karol Nawrocki’s endorsement of the project.

“Yes” Dominates Survey Results

A clear majority of respondents supported the tax proposal. 63.93 percent, or 739 voters, answered “yes,” the highest percentage for any option.

Opposition to raising the tax bracket was expressed by 28.37 percent of participants, representing 328 votes. 7.70 percent, or 89 voters, indicated they had no opinion. A total of 1156 votes were cast, with results compiled on April 20th.

Details of the Proposed Tax Changes

The proposed increase of the second tax bracket from 120,000 Zloty to 140,000 Zloty would take effect in 2027, impacting public sector employees and the middle class.

Proponents suggest the change will limit tax increases in subsequent years. The project is estimated to cost around 9 billion Zloty, funded by increased excise taxes on alcohol and a digital tax.

Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Jan Szyszko presented the details in social media. Other proposals, such as “PIT Zero. Family Plus,” also exist, suggesting a zero PIT rate for families with two or more children.
