On December 2, Warsaw police detained a 58‑year‑old man after a false bomb alarm alarmed the metro at about 2 a.m. in the Targówek district.

False bomb alarm triggers police response

During the night of December 1, a 112 emergency caller reported a bomb device had been placed in the Warsaw metro. The call was received by officers in the Targówek district around 2 a.m.

Rapid investigation identifies suspect

Within minutes, investigators inspected the assigned area and pinpointed a 58‑year‑old man as the alleged culprit. He initially denied any connection, but police quickly disproved his statements. He later apologized, acted irrationally, and carried a strong odor of alcohol.

Arrest and evidence secured

Police detained the suspect and seized his phone as evidence. A sobriety test conducted later found his breath alcohol concentration at nearly 2 promille. A patrol dog and pyrotechnic check confirmed no explosive threat remained.

Suspect’s past criminal record

Further investigation revealed the man had previously been arrested for robbery, criminal threats, and an assault on a public official. In 2022 he was also charged with a false bomb alarm. Prosecutors cited these repeat offenses when presenting the case.

Imposed detention and potential sentence

The court ordered a two‑month pre‑trial detention. He faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment for the false alarm, with a harsher penalty imposed because of his recidivist status. The incident occurred in the KRP VI precinct, covering Białołęka, Praga Północ, and Targówek, and is being handled by the Targówek Crime Investigation Unit.
