Police Confirm: 6-Year-Old Killed in Warsaw Traffic Crash

Police confirm details after a 6-year-old child was killed in a Warsaw traffic collision involving multiple pedestrians.

Fatal Accident in Warsaw

Warsaw police reported receiving notification of an accident at the intersection of Grochowska and Zamieniecka streets in Praga-Południe after 3:00 PM. Initial findings indicate that a 28-year-old woman driving a Ford failed to yield the right of way to a Toyota approaching on Grochowska Street while turning left. In the collision, the Toyota overturned and struck a group of people on the pedestrian crossing. Four people were injured, including a 6-year-old child who was taken to the hospital but could not be saved. Three injured women were also hospitalized.

Drivers Detained After Accident

Both drivers were found to be sober, and the prosecution decided to detain them. According to a Monday police statement, “Under the supervision of the prosecutor, an inspection is being conducted at the scene with the participation of an expert in road traffic.” Witnesses reported that bystanders were uncertain how to respond. One man interviewed by Polsat News stated, “Instead of calling for help, they were kneeling, recording what was happening.” The man mentioned he performed resuscitation on the child and, together with another person, assisted the driver of the overturned vehicle.

Warsaw Mayor Calls for Accountability

Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased boy. “I am shocked by the tragic event that took place in Praga-Południe. (…) I join in the pain of the boy’s loved ones,” he wrote on X. “I count on the efficient determination of the exact causes of the tragic accident and the punishment of the perpetrators. And as the city president, I commit to further consistent action to increase the safety of all road users in Warsaw,” emphasized the Warsaw president.
