Police Continue Investigation of Wola Beating, Crack Down on Transport Services

Police continue investigating the beating of a 36-year-old Tajikistani man in Warsaw while conducting widespread checks on passenger transport vehicles.

Police continue procedural actions in the case of the beating of a 36-year-old Tajikistani citizen on Warsaw’s Wola. The detained men remain at the disposal of law enforcement authorities, and the gathered evidence is being processed with a view to charging them.

Police emphasize that the suspects were detained in a short time after the incident due to “effective and coordinated cooperation of officers from several units and departments of the Metropolitan Police Command.”

Widespread Transport Controls

Since the morning hours, officers of the metropolitan garrison – including local units from districts and counties, the Warsaw Prevention Police Department, and organizational cells of the KSP, including the Traffic Department – have been conducting extensive checks on vehicles providing passenger transport services in Warsaw and its vicinity.

Recent Results

According to the data provided so far, several hundred checks have been conducted. Yesterday, officers conducted 388 such checks, identified 388 individuals, and discovered one person registered in the Schengen Information System with a refusal of entry to the Schengen area (Article 24 SIS). They also performed 201 sobriety checks and 385 checks of driving licenses, issuing 56 fines totaling PLN 23,800.

Previous Operations

Police recall the results of last year’s operations under the code name “Safe Transport.” It was noted that during that period, police officers detained 46 persons against whom decisions were made for deportation and 126 drivers without licenses. In 540 cases, registration certificates were seized, and in 53 cases, driving licenses were seized. 115 vehicles were towed away.

Objective and Future Actions

The actions are preventive and control-oriented and aimed at increasing the safety of passengers and residents of the capital. Police check, among other things: the sobriety of drivers, required permits, legality of transport, technical condition of vehicles, and legality of foreigners’ stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
