Police End Raid After Kidnapping of 9‑Year‑Old Boy in Warsaw

The Capital Police Headquarters announced on Monday that a raid was finished following the abduction of a nine‑year‑old boy in Warsaw, after apprehending a 36‑year‑old Ukrainian man.

End of Police Raid

At dawn on Monday, the Capital Police Headquarters announced that the raid over the kidnapping of a nine‑year‑old boy in Warsaw had concluded. Officers had detained a 36‑year‑old Ukrainian citizen who the day before had taken his former partner’s 9‑year‑old daughter from her apartment.

Thanks to the efforts and determination of police negotiators and the coordinated actions of officers from the Warszawa VI District Police Headquarters, various departments of the Capital Police Headquarters, and the Police Prevention Unit, the child was recovered and is now under medical care. Operations continue.

Dynamic Action

The boy was handed over to medical staff for examination, and doctors report that there is no danger to his life, spokesperson Robert Szumiata told reporters.

According to Szumiata, the operation to arrest the man was highly dynamic, so the police needed to confirm that nothing had happened to the child during the arrest or before. Medics will also check for cold exposure. The priority was to release the boy and place him under his mother’s care.

Szumiata added that the child’s mother had a dispute with the man in her apartment and said that he was unable to explain rationally why he had taken the child. He is scheduled to be questioned on Monday.

Kidnapping in Warsaw

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in an apartment near the Vistula River Embankment. Police said a 36‑year‑old visitor entered his former partner’s apartment and, without her permission, left with her 9‑year‑old son.

The woman called the authorities. “Because of the search we found the man with the child. We are speaking with him to return the boy to his mother,” said Paulina Onyszko of the Warsaw VI District Police Headquarters.

The man had refused to cooperate for many hours and kept the child in a green area on Obrazkowa Street. The Capital Police Headquarters reported that the operation had ended successfully.
