Police Enter KRS Headquarters as Search Underway

Police and prosecutors entered Poland’s National Council of the Judiciary building in Warsaw on January 21, 2026, conducting a search.

Police and Prosecutors Enter KRS Building

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, around noon, the building of the National Council of the Judiciary at Rakowiecka Street in Warsaw became the scene of police and prosecutor’s office actions. According to unofficial information, officers from the Metropolitan Police Command appeared there on the explicit order of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

Search Focuses on Chairperson’s Office

The situation quickly escalated – according to reports. Prosecutors entered the building accompanied by police officers, and the actions included, among other things, a search of the chairperson’s office secretariat. The official purpose of the investigators’ visit is to secure documentation as part of one of the proceedings conducted by the National Prosecutor’s Office.

KRS Spokesperson Comments on Situation

According to media reports, KRS spokesperson Ewa Łosińska confirmed the presence of uniformed officers in the KRS building. She noted that initially, police officers waited in the hallway, not taking radical steps, while waiting for lawyers and the return of the Council chairperson from the Sejm.

“There is police, there are prosecutors in the chairperson’s office secretariat, who returned from the Sejm. I assume they came again to the disciplinary judges for judges’ disciplinary files,” said the KRS spokesperson in an interview with RMF FM.

Political Background Speculated

On the X platform (formerly Twitter), suggestions appeared that today’s intervention at the KRS headquarters is not coincidental. Council representatives link the presence of security services with ongoing work in the Sejm on the so-called “rule of law bill”, presented by Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek.

Ongoing Actions and Talks Underway

According to media reports, currently in the KRS headquarters, talks are underway with the disciplinary spokesperson and the Council chairperson. Security services continue actions aimed at securing evidence material.
