Polish police detained Zbigniew Ziobro at Warsaw airport on Monday, compelling him to testify before the Pegasus spyware inquiry.
Police Intervention at Airport
On Monday, September 29, after 10:30 AM, police waited for Zbigniew Ziobro at Warsaw airport before his flight. The politician was detained and served with a court order for compulsory appearance. He argued that the Constitutional Tribunal had ruled his detention illegal, but the officer responded that he was “executing a court decision.” Ziobro was also asked not to use his phone, but insisted he had “notes” on it.
Police Visit to Ziobro’s Residence
Earlier, around 6:00 AM, police arrived at Ziobro’s home in Jeruzal (Łódź province). Officers rang the intercom at the gate, but no one answered.
Background of the Case
Previous attempts to question Ziobro ended in failure, as he either presented medical exemptions or challenged the commission’s legitimacy. In one instance, police brought him to the Sejm building, but the commission had already adjourned. Ziobro is a key witness, having overseen the Justice Ministry, which controlled the Justice Fund. This fund transferred 25 million zloty to the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) for purchasing the Pegasus spyware. According to the ruling coalition, the system was allegedly used by the PiS government to monitor the opposition.
