Following the killing of an 11‑year‑old girl in Jelenia Góra on 15 December, police traced the two persons who spread a fabricated story blaming a Ukrainian woman and fueling ethnic hatred.
Authorities Know Who Spread the Misinformation
Police confirmed the identities of the individuals who disseminated false posts alleging that a Ukrainian woman had killed the 11‑year‑old. According to state secretary Marcin Kierwiński, the posts were deliberately aimed at stoking ethnic hostility. The police seized the victim’s mobile phone and the premises where the messages were sent.
Silesian Police Clarify Motives
The Silesian police released a detailed statement noting that the online rumors were intentionally false and designed to inflame hatred, particularly against ethnic groups, between Poland and Ukraine. The department emphasized that such acts constitute a breach of law and will not be tolerated.
Legal Consequences for Incitement of Hate
Police said that the actions of the two spreaders—supported by officers from Kielce and Kraków—led to their arrest. Under Article 256 of the Polish Penal Code, incitement of hatred based on nationality, ethnicity, race, religion or lack thereof may attract up to three years’ imprisonment.
Circumstances of the Child’s Death
The 11‑year‑old, Danusia, was found near Primary School No. 10 on 15 December with knife wounds. Investigators linked the murder to a 12‑year‑old girl who attended the same school.
