On Wednesday 17 December, officers entered the Dom Pomocy Społecznej dla Dzieci (Child Welfare Centre) in Wschowa, a facility hosting minors with intellectual and motor disabilities governed by the Sisters of St. Elizabeth.

The officers removed the nun and two staff members from the premises.

Nun faces abuse charges

The nun is alleged to have engaged in mental and physical mistreatment of the disabled children.

Prosecutors imposed her under supervision and prohibited her from performing caregiving duties, but did not request a temporary arrest, citing no grounds for incarceration.

The potential sentence ranges from six months to eight years imprisonment.

Two staff members charged

The two employees are accused of coercing the children into specific behaviors, for which they face up to three years’ imprisonment.

The number of victims remains unclear, with prosecutors keeping details confidential pending investigation.
