On November 4, Wrocław City Police revealed a video showing two German Shepherds kept in a room lacking water, food, and basic hygiene, sparking an investigation into animal cruelty.
Dogs Held in Extreme Conditions
Wrocław City Police announced on November 4 that an investigation had been launched into alleged animal abuse. Two German Shepherds were discovered locked in a house in conditions described as “extremely bad.” Subcommisioner Aleksandra Freus said the dogs were kept in a room devoid of water and food, with a floor littered with waste, indicating they were not regularly taken for walks. The condition of the dogs exhibited clear signs of cruelty.
Suspected Owner Faces Charges
In response to the rescue, the dogs were transferred to the Wrocław Animal Shelter after being recovered by a rescue team that included the municipal guard and representatives from the local animal protection organization. The 73‑year‑old man who had been caring for the dogs may now be charged with animal cruelty, punishable by up to five years in prison under Polish law.
How to Identify Animal Abuse
The Animal Foundation stresses that any suspected cruelty—such as lack of water or food, physical injury, or evident fear of the owner—should be reported to police, municipal guards, or animal‑care NGOs. The organization urges careful observation and evidence collection to facilitate documentation and support any official complaint.
