Polish police recovered a 3,000‑zloty gorilla sculpture stolen from a Płock restaurant, after the thief transported it 50 kilometres in a trunk.
The Stolen Statue
A decorative gorilla figure worth nearly 3,000 PLN was removed from a Płock restaurant. It was not a live animal but a metal sculpture that had been an integral part of the venue’s décor.
The Chase Across Counties
Officers from the Police Against Asset Crime Unit traced clues that led them to Kutno County. There, they located the statue in a trunk that had been driving 50 kilometres from its original location.
The Return to Płock
The recovered gorilla was brought back to Płock alongside police officers and placed at the local police headquarters. While awaiting processing, the statue took a spot near the Christmas tree.
The Suspect and Plea
A 28‑year‑old suspect was charged with theft. He pleaded guilty and faces up to five years in prison.
Restaurant’s Gratitude
Owners of the restaurant expressed extensive thanks for the police’s swift action, noting that they had doubted the sculpture would ever return to its rightful place.
