Police in Zielona Góra are rejecting accusations made by journalist Jacek Zachowski regarding a fatal dog‑attack that occurred on 12 October near a shooting range, saying the claims are unsubstantiated.
Fatal Dog Bite of a Man
On 12 October, in a forest near a shooting range in Zielona Góra, a 46‑year‑old former policeman was attacked by three dogs—believed to be Belgian shepherds—that escaped the range’s grounds. He was hospitalized and died three days later from his injuries. Prosecutors said the dogs had previously slipped out of the range’s perimeter. The 53‑year‑old owner was arrested this week, charged, detained, and faces a potential life sentence.
Police Should Share Cell with Civilian
Journalist Jacek Zachowski told Polsat News that the same cell should house the police who ignored prior incidents involving the dogs and that the owner’s companion had allowed too much laxity. He added that similar agreements are often strong in rural provinces, implying a systemic problem.
Police Say Investigations Followed Law
The Zielona Góra City Police Command stated that, at this stage, there is no evidence that they reacted to or minimized reports of incidents involving the dog’s owner. It reiterated that all investigations were carried out in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Code of Procedural, under prosecutor supervision. Police decisions in preparatory proceedings are subject to prosecutor review, and affected parties may file appeals.
Police Refuse to Accept Accusations
In a statement, the police said they do not agree with the baseless accusations directed at them by Zachowski. They highlighted that the arrested owner has not been a policeman for six years and never held a managerial post. They also noted that the Zielona Góra police have never used the shooting range involved. The command pledged to reject further baseless claims against their officers and the entire formation.
