32-year-old Polish boxing champion Eugeniusz Makarczuk has returned to Belarus, shocking colleagues who feared repression.
Belarusian Services Inquiry
In September 2025, the Polish Boxing Union (PUB) received a letter from Artur Kondrat, president of the Association of AK Camp Soldiers. The letter highlighted “uncircumstances” surrounding Makarczuk’s return and alleged he had contacts with individuals linked to Russian and Belarusian authorities. PUB issues permits for foreign-licensed fighters.
Colleagues’ Shock and Suspicion
Makarczuk’s colleagues are in shock. The boxer had previously stated he could not return to Belarus due to repression and expressed strong Polish roots, even preparing for a Polish Card and citizenship. He won the Polish international junior middleweight title in 2023. His recent social media posts show him at boxing clubs in Minsk.
Kondrat emphasized the trip “raises a lot of suspicion.” He suggested Belarusian authorities contacted Makarczuk, noting returning citizens face lengthy interrogations. Makarczuk is reportedly unresponsive to contact attempts.
