Polish Cities Among Most Congested Worldwide, Drivers Lose Up to Five Days Annually

Łódź and Lublin rank among world’s most congested cities according to TomTom Traffic Index 2026.

According to the TomTom Traffic Index 2026, the streets of Łódź and Lublin are among the most congested globally. Łódź has a congestion level of 73%, meaning average travel time during peak hours is 73% higher than in smooth traffic conditions. The annual report’s official publication is scheduled for January 21.

Top Congested Cities

In the global ranking, Łódź secured fourth place, trailing only Mexico (75.9%), Bengaluru (74.4%), and Dublin (72.9%). Lublin also made the top ten most congested cities worldwide with a congestion level of 70.4%.

European Traffic Situation

Out of the ten most congested cities in Europe, six are located in Poland. This highlights a significant traffic congestion problem across Polish urban centers compared to other European nations.

Deteriorating Traffic Conditions

Compared to the previous year, the congestion indicator has worsened in all 12 Polish cities analyzed by TomTom, suggesting an ongoing transportation crisis in major Polish metropolitan areas.
