Polish Defense Minister: Continuous Reports from Soldiers in Middle East

Polish Defense Minister confirms continuous reports from soldiers in Middle East amid regional tensions.

Polish Military Presence in Region

Poland maintains two military contingents in the Middle East: one in Lebanon as part of a UN peacekeeping mission (up to 250 soldiers) and another in Iraq as part of an international coalition against so-called Islamic State (up to 350 soldiers). The latter contingent may also conduct operations in Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait.

Continuous Reports from Commanders

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has been receiving regular reports from commanders of Polish military contingents. All procedures in these contingents are at the highest level and aim to protect soldiers, according to the minister.

Coordination with US Officials

The defense minister discussed coordination regarding Polish military contingents with US officials, including US Under Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby. The conversation included analysis of the current situation, cooperation with allies, and information exchange, with Iran mentioned as a topic of discussion.

Poland’s Position on Regional Actions

Poland emphasized that it does not participate in certain military actions in the region, focusing primarily on protecting its citizens and soldiers. When asked if Poland was informed about potential US and Israeli attacks on Iran, the minister stated that Poland “is not bypassed in any way.”
