Polish Deputy Speaker Piotr Zgorzelski described Sejm Marshal Wlodzimierz Czarzasty as the ‘herald of the anti-Trump crusade’ amid diplomatic tensions.
Political Criticism of Trump
Bartosz Arłukowicz, a MEP from the Civic Coalition, praised Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s approach to speaking truth about Trump and his administration. “Generally, we need to start telling the truth about Trump and his administration,” Arłukowicz stated on Sunday in Polsat News. He believes the time for indulging in the transgressions of Trump’s entire administration and Trump himself is ending.
As Deputy Speaker of the Sejm from PSL, Piotr Zgorzelski emphasized that Poland has its greatest ally in the United States. “Presidents will change, this president will change in three years,” Zgorzelski said, calling Czarzasty the “herald of the anti-Trump crusade.”
Ambassador’s Response
American ambassador Tom Rose announced the termination of contacts with Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty after Czarzasty expressed opposition to a motion to award the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump. Czarzasty also criticized Trump’s new platforms like the Peace Council as “illusory” and stated that Poland should strengthen existing organizations like the EU and NATO.
Rose emphasized that this creates a serious obstacle in the “excellent” relations between the American administration and Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his government. “We will not allow anyone to damage Polish-American relations or insult Donald Trump, who has done so much for Poland and Poles,” wrote the ambassador on the X platform.
National Security Council Meeting
Meanwhile, President Karol Nawrocki convened a meeting of the National Security Council for February 11 to address three issues: a loan taken by the government for the SAFE Program, Poland’s invitation to the Peace Council, and the state’s actions regarding the clarification of Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s “eastern contacts.”
Czarzasty responded that he has nothing to hide. In turn, Czarzasty requested that the meeting agenda be expanded to include “clarification of the nature of President Karol Nawrocki’s contacts with pseudo-hooligan circles and persons associated with organized crime.”
Foreign Minister’s Position
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, when asked about the issue during his visit to Chicago this week, did not want to comment in detail on the US ambassador’s posts, explaining that he was outside Poland. “However, I will want to know to what extent this was the position of the US authorities, and to what extent the personal position of the ambassador, and whether there was any coordination with our opposition,” said the deputy prime minister.
