Polish Exporters to Germany Face New Packaging Registration Requirements

Polish businesses selling to Germany must comply with packaging waste registration or face substantial fines.

Germany: Poland’s Largest Market

Germany has long been Poland’s largest economic partner and primary export destination. Thousands of Polish entrepreneurs, including those selling through platforms like Amazon and eBay, export products to this market.

Mandatory Registration Requirements

Many Polish exporters remain unaware of their obligation to register in Germany’s waste management system, which operates similarly to Poland’s BDO (waste database) system.

The ZSVR and Lucid Registry

The ZSVR (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister) serves as Germany’s central agency, maintaining the public Lucid packaging registry. Failure to register can result in penalties reaching hundreds of thousands of euros.

The Packaging Obligation

Any product sold in packaging creates a legal requirement for registration within the German waste management system.
