Polish families with multiple children can receive income tax refunds within 30 days instead of the standard 45-90 day period by using the Large Family Card.
How Tax Refunds Work for Large Families
Large families can claim tax refunds primarily through the family allowance. If taxpayers use this benefit throughout the year, the tax deduction amounts are: 1,112.04 zł for the first and second child (92.67 zł monthly), 2,000.04 zł for the third child (166.67 zł monthly), and 2,700 zł for the fourth and each subsequent child (225 zł monthly).
Accelerated Tax Refund Process
The standard waiting time for tax refunds is 45-90 days depending on the type of PIT declaration submitted. However, Large Family Card holders are entitled to an expedited process, with the overpayment refund credited to their account within 30 days of filing their tax return. To benefit from this, taxpayers must inform the tax office about having a valid Card by entering the appropriate information in the “supplementary information” section of their annual tax return.
Tax Refund Season Begins February 15th
Taxpayers are required to submit PIT tax returns for 2025 between February 15 and April 30, 2026. The document should include income or loss achieved during this period. If all necessary data is available, the declaration can be submitted earlier—the tax office will then consider the filing date as February 15th. This is significant when calculating the time the tax office must return the overpayment.
Fast Processing for Large Families in 2026
For large families, an accelerated procedure is provided. This means that if the declaration is submitted on February 15, 2026 or earlier, the tax refund should be credited to the account no later than March 17, 2026—significantly faster than the standard process.
Large Family Card: Eligibility and Benefits
Large Family Card holders can enjoy many privileges designed for families raising at least three children. These include not only a discount system with program partners, but also specific administrative preferences—including the possibility of receiving tax refunds in a shorter timeframe than standard.
Large Family Card Validity Period
The above-mentioned rights are valid for a specific period, depending on who uses the Card. For parents, the document is permanent and remains valid for life. This differs for children, whose right to use the program is limited by age or circumstances.
Younger family members can use the Card until they turn 18. If they continue their education after reaching adulthood, they retain the rights until their education is completed, but no later than age 25. For children with disability certificates, the validity period of the Card depends on the validity period of such document.
